Supercharged Rotary? More common than you think.

That my friend, is a sick setup!!! I bet that thing screams and just makes your ears bleed.. Search on this forum and you'll find a bit more about rotarys and they do put blowers on it, but not usually as big.. Damn!

there is a difference between a real BLOWER and a supercharger.

correct me if im wrong, but a blower mounts directlt t the manifold, like the old muscle cars, and a supercharger is like wat vortech makes. runs off belts, but uses pipes to get it to the intake tract.right?

a blower and a supercharger are the same thing. what your're thinking of is just the difference in the type of supercharger. the one that you're thinking of from vortech is called a centrifugal type... it's belt driven into a reduction box to spin what looks like the compressor side of a really big turbo to make boost. the normal type people see are called the roots type. the benefit of a centrifugal type is the ability to intercool, however i don't believe they can make near the amount of boost of a roots (which put out like 60 pounds on top fuel dragsters). The reason people would supercharge in the first place is because of an instantaneous boost effect, no lag time for spooling like ona turbo car.

superchargers make linear boost amounts where turbos make exponential boost amounts. the only benefit of turbocharging is the ability to fine tune a/f ratios (not much pinging like you'll find in a high boosted supercharged engine) and a more compact desigh

Technically, a turbocharger is also a type of supercharger.

They could all be classified as blowers, they do the same thing, just a different way.

Hey anyone remember the video where the guy was about to drag race with one of those on the engine and it blew up?

yeah, it's on stileproject, a 3 rotor supercharged 1st gen. it may be a month behind, but it was pretty recent.

Nope. A turbo is a supercharger. The technical name is turbo-supercharger.

hahaha... and who's the genius who gave it that technical name? let's say for semantics, a turbocharger uses exhaust pressure to spool boost, and a supercharger uses crank rotation to spool boost.

a turbo-supercharger could be argued to be a centrifugal supercharger, but no pissing contests over something so dumb, please

powercharging is both a supercharger on a belt and a exhaust driven turbo on the same motor at the same time. it supposed to make the most power all over the RPMS range.

How is fine tuning a/f ratios a benifit of turbocharging? The correct a/f ratio is a requirement for any engine whether it's forced induction or n/a. There are many benifits to turbos but that's not one of them.
