Power Window Switch Question

Hey Guys, I know the Power Window Switches look changed
the way they look in the S3 (84/85) cars.

My question is this: Are they fundamentally the same switch as
the S1/S2 (81-83) cars?

Is it the same plug, same wiring?

I actually would prefer to retrofit a set of the older 81-83 switches
on my car, so I can make a custom cutout for them.

The 81/83 switches snap in place individually. IIRC, the 84/85
cars kinda have the switch "built-in" to the center piece, and don't really
snap into place.

Besides, they would look better too.

Anybody know for sure? I don't want to look for old switches for no reason.

The earlier switches have a different plug in than the 84-85 ones. The 84-85 are a single plug harness versus the earlier ones with a separate harness for the left and right sides.

I could probably modify it pretty easily though.. Should still be the same amount of wires when completed, no?

get a set of switches out of an 83-81 model including about 5 inches of the harness. then re-wire into your 84-85. pretty simple swap.
