power washing under the hood....

power washing under the hood....

this thing is filthy under the hood, looks like it's been sitting forever. i have a 79 with a 12a in it, bone stock. what all parts should i make sure to cover up when power washing under the hood? thanks

There was a long thread on this in the last 2 weeks. Many options and opinions.

I myself, do not cover or protect anything. If I'm at the carwash, I leave the engine running. If I dig out the power washer at home, it gets washed either way. You should be careful of the belts and radiator, direct, close spraying can cause damage, same with the wrapped wiring harnesses. Try not to soak the dizzy.

Warm up the engine and spray your preffered cleaner, let it soak, then wash. If there is thick oil buildup, it may take several treatments.

a brush doesn't hurt either, I use a parts cleaning brush that looks like a big artists paint brush
