Have the alt tested at a parts store.

Is the belt in good shape, does it slip.

Check the alt with the car running. " ...sometimes runs sweet and gives a constent 13volts usally... " sounds like you need to explore some better alternator solutions.

Not that much, and with a stronger alt it should be less so.

It's not unheard of the get a bad one from the store, get it checked out, and try to fix that mounting angle, it will wear out belts leaving you stranded.

Run a couple of extra ground wires from the motor to the - on battery and from the body to the - on the battery. Just rig something simple to check it out.

Using the 12 gauge wire should be good enough for a short term test. If this solves your issue then you can get something more suitable later...

Unhappy

what, did you get it from autozone? Do you have a digital volt meter? My friend just went through 3 alts trying to get ONE that works from the zone.

If nothing else, take it to a shop that rebuilds alts and have it done right. They can test the output too.

I bought a brand new alternator for my Dodge, an AC Delco. It failed less than 3 months later. Sometimes you just get a lemon.

That's cool man, glad it wasn't the alt after all. Time to go through the whole system and replace some/all of the wires, hey was that a dingo?
