ON Power loss

hey guys....82 12a, i had it stored for the winter....and i could not get it running. Today i poured a little gas down the carb and she started fine...choke pulled in and it warmed up, but then it would not idle....just die. So i got a friend to hold the throttle down and i sprayed carb cleaner down there while it was running. I could see the shots of gas from the jets also.

so i took it for a ride and it was riding good. I have noticed though that i have some power loss at high revs. It seems like the secondaries are not opening up. Is there a way i can test the secondaries?? Could it be a vacuum leak? Would removing the rat nest help??
I have recently changed the plugs, air filter, and fuel filter. Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance

From the horror stories ive heard about things of this nature, you're looking at a carb rebuild.

Finish your tune up with a new distributor cap and rotor.

Be sure the throttle return rod is hooked up correctly.

Change your fuel filter. This is the cause of 98.5527% of all high rpm power loss issues.

+1 on fuel filter, +1 on the secondary linkage. also, check for burned holes in your anti afterburn hose shown on the second pic, this may be your idle issue

Well guys, my throttle return was wrong, and i fixed it
also, my anti afterburn #2 hose goes nowhere and is not hooked up and also, that little triangle elbow at the bottom of pic2 is hylomared and pinched off

looks like the previous owner went through a nest removal 1/2 assed, cause the nest is still there

that hose needs to be plugged in, or capped off, but make sure it is not burnt at the bend where it connects to the manifold, it usually burns off and creates a huge vacuum leak.

ok, so the hose that comes out of the anti afterburn #2 that is supposed to go to the manifold is not hooked up. The spot at the manifold where it goes in is capped....do i have to cap the hose too??

PS, i finally got it started on its own today....i knocked the top of the bowls cause i think the needles were stuck. It also idles nicely @ 750/800RPM's

yes that hose that nipple on the manifold where the hose goes to should be plugged, but it must be sealed or something else you would never get it to idle at that rpm if it wasn't.
