Power antenna wires

Ok I've done a search and could not find the info I needed. I have installed a JV deck, how do I get the power antenna working?

Do I need to intsall a switch? Which wires are for the power antenna (is it the one harness with three wires? And what about the brown harnes with the single wire next to it, that one has constant power?

Help please i really want to finish my intsall.

Thanks

Adam

Adam, I saw the answer to this posted over a year ago, and I'll be darned if I can remember where. I'm almost positive it was in this section. It might be in the FAQ or archives, but I think it was here. I'm on dialup, so that scale of search is out of bounds for me, but search on Antenna, or power antenna.

I do know that the mazda one works off a constant power source which is backwards to a standard deck of antenna. There's something you have to do with the wiring to right the backwards way Mazda made it.

For 85 GSL - if it worked before, I think the most likely problem is with the antenna. You can find the wiring behind the rear carpet across the back of the hatch and follow it to the antenna. You will have to remove the right side inner panel. If for any reason you have to remove the antenna, you have to remove the RR taillight - that's how it comes out.

Sorry, not much help guys, best I can do for you I'm afraid.

You will probably need to use a relay. The stock system grounds the antenna trigger wire from what I remember. I believe aftermarket decks source power (+12v (5v?) when the power comes on. I will take a look at the wiring diagrams when I get home to be sure. The relay that you would add would take the signal from the aftermarket deck and switch the stock antenna trigger to ground.

I actually would prefer to just to put it on a switch, I don't listen to radio much and don't want the antenna up whenver the deck is on.

I just need to know which wires are for the antenna and how to wire up a switch.

If this is the same problem that my 88 had then yes the signal is backwards. When you want the antenna up it grounds out and when you want it down it goes to 12V.

You can use a switch or a relay to fix the problem and on top of that you can rewire/replace the stock relay or add a relay at the antenna. On my 88 I added a relay at the antenna because it was easiest.

Looking at the FSM you could swap the LW wire and the B wire at the relay to reverse the polarity. Problem is there are 2 LW wires...

Anyways, for those without the FSM:

Yes my diagram is the same. So if I apply a 12v source to the wire LG(1) the antenna will go up and if I ground the same wire it will go down?

I don't want to fry anything.

No, it looks as if the antenna will be down with the LG not connected and will go up with LG grounded. You should be able to use a SPST switch with one terminal connected to LG and the other terminal connected to ground.

Sounds good, it's been a long time since I have read electricall schematics. I will give it a shot tonight.

Check to make sure that you have a proper ground behind the liftgate latch. You have to lift the carpeting to expose the wiring harness for the lights/antenna/fuel sensor.

Do the rear parking lights shine properly?

The power antenna wire is in the 3-hole connector. The 'top' hole, if you look at it like a pyramid. If you put a wire in there and ground it, the antenna will come up. You could hook up a switch to ground, or install a relay. I just put a new stereo in and I didn't even bother with it because my radio reception seems fine with the antenna down. Yes, the single dark connector is for battery, always on that is.

Thank for your everyone.

I'm going to put in a switch to control the antenna, as I'm dropping in a JVC deck and the Harman Kardon drive & play for my ipod. I will not use the radio much since I have 4000 songs on my ipod. So when I need the antenna up it's just a flick of a switch.

I will post some pics of the intall this weekend, (she is going to be very stealth),

Adam
