Hey all, newbe here

I am looking at a 1979 RX-7 that is currently a one owner with 55,500 miles and simply in perfect condition as far as I can tell.

Here is the question, rotary engines? I know nothing about them other than they exist. This gentleman has all the receipts and maintenance records and I have wanted an RX-7 since 1979

What should I look for, what are the trouble areas? Everything is very, very clean.

Drives very strong and quick, 5 Speed manual, air conditioning.

Does the rotary engine come in a number of flavors?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.!

 

Hmm, Michigan? Has it been garaged during every winter? Get underneath and check for rust in the rear wheel wells and also check the storage compartments for rust.

I think the rotary from 78 1/2 through 83 was only the 12A. After that the 84 and 85 models came with either the 12A or the 13B (which has more horsepower).

Car has been garaged and driven 3 to 10 times a year, only during June - August. No rain, no snow just sunshine. The car is in amazing shape. He is asking $3,500 and I have already placed a deposit on the car. Just need last minute checks to verify I am not buying something that is just not worth it.

I feel its a decent deal.
