Talking Post your most difficult driveabiltiy issue:

That's correct. Lets here about the strangest/most difficult running issue "You" have encountered and what It took to fix it.
The rules are It is on a 1st gen 7 and the issue had been solved.
Like to have detailed info and maybe have the info Archived so when we are doing heavy diagnosis we can look outside of the Box and also see if there are more repeatitive cases to refer to. So heres a couple of mine.
Forgot to add. Please list year, motor, whether carb'd or injected and what mods done. Now this is not limited to drivetrain but all areas of the vehicle.

84 Gsl-se. Stock Fuel Injection. Only mod was Rb header system. Lightened steel flywheel.
Issue. Car would randomly die when driving. Started off only when it was warm outside. Also would not re-start after driven and sat for only 5-10 minutes without flooding. Had to shut off fuel to injection then crank extensively before restart.
If vehicle sat for hours it would restart on it's own. At end it would not restart at all.
Findings: 6 month old Bosch Dist rotor was grounding it'self thru the dist and not allowing fire to either leading or trailing sides when all ignition wires were on. Did all testing to vehicle including ECU/Ignitors/wiring/AFM/compression.
Installed new dist rotor and vehicle started immediately. No other issues after that.
84 Gsl-Se. Issue; Gross polluter. Same vehicle above.
All ignition components were new. Oil just changed. Air filter serviced. Injectors cleaned. New cats installed. All testing of F.I. system done including pressure test and regulator operation. Afm tested. And again complete ECU testing of values looking for things like defective CTS. Operation of ACV and all emission equipment checked and verified as working.
Findings. Air exhaust check valve defective allowing exhaust to come back into the intake tract.
Fix; new air exhaust check valve welded on by the local muffler shop.
Car retested and passed smog with flying colors afterwards.
Ok, lets see what you have.

Most difficult??

Reading a novel like this one. How about a summary with bullet points.

84 GSL-SE-completely stock
Issue: idle surge. the idle would surge and act as if there were tps issues, vaccume leaks or BACV issues and the problem would only occur when the engine was idling, one wouldnt feel surging when driving. i checked and checked the tps, reset it a few times and still nothing. i changed the gasket on the BACV due to a vaccume leak and that helped a small bit. i finally was mesing with the throttle and realized that the throttle wasnt closing all the way. the throttle plates were sticking open about 1/16" causing the engine to idle erratically. i tried lubing the throttle shafts in hopes that the plates were sticking due to gummed up shafts and with no luck, replaced the throttle body with one off of the shelf and that solved my problem.

problem:i bought an 82 gs and it stalled at every stop and ran horriblle, it wouldnt idle under 1700rpms.
fix: i had the biggest vaccum leak, i plugged or routed the hoses on the carb, air cleaner and intake where they were supposed to go.

I know, yours was probably running out of High-temp silicone in an attempt to keep the apex seals in place while assembling the motor.

Hmm, let's see...

Issue: brakes were making noise due to front wheels rotors wearing out unevenly.

Fix: drove on one of the rotors @ 100 mph in an attempt to even them out

After failing, got new ones and got them installed.

The hardest part was driving on the rotor at that speed without loosing control.

You apparently did not get the TSB from Mazda stating that your repair method was supposed to be done on train tracks.

Cause and effect scenario. Meaning that usually when a battery fails there is a cause other then it just being a old battery.

Damn! I knew I should have told Mazda of my address change. That way I wouldn't have missed that TSB.
