possible? twin turbo 12a?

i was just wonding if it would be possible to put 93 rx7 twin turbos on a 12a using the jdm 12a turbo manifold? im not worried about any adapaters or anything...everything can be made. i just wanna know if it will work? and if so how much hp to a stock 12a u thin it would make?

(i realize i would have to get a new carb setup and new exhaust)

That reminds me. Ive been dreaming of finding a couple of 626 turbos in the junkyard, taking the turbos off of them, and having twin sidedraft webers, one for each two ports, and having the turbos just go straight into the carbs. no intercooler though. one carb and turbo per rotor. that would be sweet.

well yeah it'll work, turbos just dont stop working on a certain engine. as long as you make an adapter it'll be fine. Honestly I dont see what the point it though 13B>12A, besides the stock FD twins are junk anyway.

Had 2 and "junk" is one way to put it... They can work but you might want to consider a big single turbo instead.

Nothing is impossible, so it can be done - technically.

The stock FD turbos are usually cooked and fried.
They are tiny, and you'll never get them to work
sequentually.

My advice - don't waste your time.

I've seen REAL twin turbo setups (with two 60-1 turbos)
on bridge-ported 13B's. The experiment failed, and it had horrible throttle response and so-so power.

The owner switched to a larger single, and is putting out over 650 to the wheels.

Don't re-invent the wheel. It gets expensive. Go with
what has been proven to work.

Go single, and go fast.

There's usually no point in going twin turbo, unless on those engines where space dictates against single turbos (V-engines usually use one per bank). The only exception is where you can get them to run in sequential mode: this works as if you'd have a small (fast spinning, no lag) turbo at lower rpm, and a big (more lag, but more power) at higher rpm. The idea is to have best of both worlds. When replacing the stock twins on an fd, you will loose some low end response. But in your case, there's no way you're going to use them sequential, so there's no point in using the fd twins.
This said: it is possible, since a turbo is a turbo.

There's a few shops here offering twin turbo kits using Series 4/5 turbos. They make some decent power by the looks of it.

I was under the impression that a sequential setup with one large and one small turbocharger would never work...

That's not exactly true. Most of the quickest drag cars are starting to run twin or even tripple turbo setups. Talking about 20B's of course.

Well as directfreak said don't waste your time.
Most of the FD turbos need rebuild already b/c of the heat.
Plus to have a true squential twin setup you need all the junk (vaccum hoses and solenoids) from the FD which trust me is a pain in the *** to figure out. If you are not running sequential then u will have two small turbo with large lag which will be useless.

If you want to be different with the twin setup and have the money and time to spend on it, perhaps you can get couple of small turbos like GT25's and work on that. But you are better off with a single turbo, easier and cheaper and been done before.

Good luck,
O
