possible steering column prob...

I just got a new gsl-se and all's well besides the faded, hard as rocks leather and the steering wheel... I can push the wheel about 1inch in and out... can somebody help me out on how to fix it? it is fixible right? thanks.

It sounds like the plastic pins broke from a sharp blow to the steering wheel. Some replace the broke pins with aluminum pop rivets. I seen a write up about this somewhere, I usually pulled the column to do this. But I read that with a good tape measure you can do it while its still in the car.
