Possible ignition switch problem?

i have just bought a 79 rx7 and it has a 85 13b that is carbed and i drove it home ran fine and i parked it then i tried to start it up later that day it ran then shut off it will run when the car is in the start postion and it cuts the ignition as soon as it goes back to run when it is suposed to idle and know i cant hear the fuel pump so it will run just fine on the start but as soon as i let the key go back it will shut off

i know it is some thing to do with the key cylinder or the ignition switch but im not shure witch one

with the key at ON position, use test light or VOM to see if you have voltage going to both coil's positive terminal. If none, look at the pile of crappolla near the coil (called ignition relay). Check for voltage also (read the FSM for color codes).

D'oh! I skipped right over the year of the car. Ah well. I've been starting at my computer screen with a video game for a few hours so I'm allowed to be cut some slack.

main wire comes in from the fuse box to the relays then to the coils. The contactors on them relays must close for the coils to get juice. So start with the ignition wire which acts as your relay's on and off switch. I cant remember which wires but look at the FSM, page 70-80 (i think its page 76 or 77).

wacky's short cut will come later. I feel evil today.

remove the wires on both coil's + terminals and then replace it with a wire from battery +. You got fuel, now you have juice to the coils. LMK and will troubleshoot it.

Im referring to the thick black wire with either white or yellow stripe @ + terminals. The rest, you dont touch.
