mine was like that, took like a half hour to get just 1/8 the way up the gauge, I poped a new one in there and 8 minutes of warming get the needle just below half. I was pissed cause my heater would never heat, but the new T-stat took care of that.

hmmm...considering that rotaries are supposed to have some of the hottest exhaust, which eats the **** out of aftermarket mufflers and stuff....

Yeah, thermostats are pretty cheap. Mazda has them for like 15$ with gaskets... I realize that's pretty expensive for a thermostat, but that's in Canadian Pesos.... and Mazda make better thermostats than NAPA does...

Try giving it a change. It might change something.

Its like a 20 min job.

I changed my Stat this summer.

The bigest pain was draining out a bit of coolent.

Just make sure you clean the surface of the flanges real well befor you put the whole thing together.

Also note how the old stat came out.

There is a little pin that needs to be at the "top" of the thermistat when you put it in.

Oh and buy the Mazda one.

Normally yes, but mine took several days. When I tried removing one of the bolts, it snapped. I then snapped an easy-out in the drilled out bolt. I ended up redrilling out the bolt then chasing the threads with a tap. The final result was near perfect BTW. This all was not a fun experience. When I finally reinstalled the t-stat I used a liberal amount of anti-seize on the new bolts. Anytime there's a chance of a bolt coming in contact with water I highly recommend using anti-seize.
