Port/Carb setup?

Alright, well as per recent events I've decided that instead of doing a TII swap, it would be more efficient to just give the motor a larger port job, and a nice carb/intake setup. I'm really interested in all I've read about bridgeports and all that, can anyone explain any of these? Do I sacrifice a lot of driveability? And what kind of carb/intake setup would make the most power with a larger port job?

you can read about a little about porting here:

http://www.mazdarotary.net/porting.htm

then check out mazdatrix for more info.

As for which carb, either a weber 48IDA, or a holly 600. ive heard of people using either, but its really just personal preference.

I agree with Weber 48IDA.

Driveability..................poor around cities, good for mixed track/street use
Power.........................say 200hp at the wheels at 8,000rpm, but less than stock under 3,500rpm
Fuel consumption....... 12-14mpg
Noise.......................... very high but great if you are a brap brap fanatic
Idle..............................1500-1800rpm is typical
Life of engine.............up to 50% less than stock depending how you drive
legality.........................difficult in most states, having legal noise and emission for street use means you need a restrictive exhaust system and significant loss of potential power.
worthwhile..................if you have a good budget and something else more practical for a daily driver- go for it!

Remember bridgeport is a generic term. you can go from an eyebrow port not much bigger than a large streetport, to a maximum design Jport where you really cut into the housing and engine life. So choose well before you decide how wild you want to go.
