Plug reading hilarity.

So I removed some the plugs from my new 85 GSL project, and It looks really strange.

The leading plugs look normal, a little dark, but gold around the electrode.

The trailing however... they are white, ashy and look burnt.

I checked the timing, and it looks normal according to the timing marks. Any ideas?

Also, I forgot to add that this was a former Direct-fire modded ignition with 3 blaster coils and 2 MSD 6a's. The PO removed them before the car went up for sale, and claimed to have returned the ignition to stock.

I do notice some slight surging at low rpm and the throttle response seems off compared to my 84... Ill take pictures of everything tomorrow.

Maybe the burnt plugs are older than the gold plugs and they swapped them leading to trailing. Are the BR8EQ14? Those shouldnt be used in a direct fire swap as leading really. I always run BUR7EQP leading on direct fire swaps and BR8EQ14 trailing.

Check condition (resistance, leaks etc) of the plug wires.

It was reverted to the stock ignition system, as the "direct fire" bs someone cobbled up the old dist cap and coil bracket for was problematic, and apparently had issues as far as blowing up coils.

Im running the factory plug on the factory ignition, which I do have wired correctly at this point. Timing is set as per FSM, yet the trailing plugs just seem to burn off hotter, they almost look burnt.

And ive failed hard to getting pics of them, as I just got switched to 3rd shift, and have had a thunderstorm everyday im actually awake. Lol
