PLS READ: oil leak

ok i degreased my motor and power washed the crap out of it in search for this leak.

then i drove with my*spotless*motor about 3 minutes.

i stopped and looked and i have fresh oil sitting where it says 12a MAZDA. i think it is coming from between the front plate and the rotor housing, anyway it is leaking onto the top of the rotor housing then running down and covering everything on the drivers side of my car. What do i do to stop the oil, remove front plate? what do i need just gaskets? entire rbld? im have no idea what im doing but i dont have the money to pay to have it done, so any help is golden to me THANKS in advance for your help

try cleaning it again, and let some one sit in the car and rev. it up. i had a leak from the front cover plate and thats how i spoted it. if its from the front cover plate. its an easy fix. remove the front cover plate. scrape off the gasket, replace with new gasket and some silicone and put it back together.

it is possible that you may have a dowell pin leak... the only way it will hurt your engine is if you let your oil get too low.... its just a sign of a aged rotary..

If the oil is coming from between the front housing and the from rotor housing then you will have to tear down the entire engine to replace to O-ring on the dowle pin. I had the same type of leak on an 83' I had a few years back. You can not remove the front housing and front rotor housing with out taking the whole engine apart. It comes apart from the back forward.

unfortunatley with the rotary.. when it smokes and leaks oil.. its pretty much done for.... there is nothing u can do besides a complete ovehaul of the engine..

not an internal leak , ie blowing smoke from the exhaust, but rather when i kill my car i can see smoke billowing from under my hood.(the oil burning off of the hot engine and trans)

my dad suggested maybe trying the have a friend rev it up and pinpoint the leak, then buy some blue rtv and silicone the crap out of that spot just to get me by.

is there any thing wrong with that suggestion, he said thats what they did on v8's with timing chain cover leaks, jut clean it and silicone , he siad it would in some cases work for years or until the motor was rblt.

Maybe you can seal the leak with silicone, but folks around here seem to favour JB Weld, which is epoxy based. I've got some JB Weld on that leak on a car myself, and I'm waiting to see if it holds.

If it is the dowel pin leak, and it sounds like it to me, then an alternative to a complete teardown comes from Robert, aka., 626rwhp...he says his shop pulls the trans and flywheel to get to the upper bolt next to the dowel pin and they torque that sucker down to 100 ft.-lbs. He says the housings will tolerate that one bolt taking that abuse and your problem with the leak will be solved. I swear. Really. I tried the JBWeld, but the leak will just follow the parting lines underneath til they find the next spot open, so that's a no go unless you're prepared to JBWeld the entire housings together!

ok Im probably gonna do the silicone until next week end then maybe try the tightening it thing but, just in case i end up having to rbld what are the minimum parts needed and the estimated cost of them? is there a book that walks step by step through the teardown assessment and rbld of a 12a?
