Arrow pls help

Ok I have a 1980 rx7 and I have been working on it to get it to run and I have failed. I don’t know what to do I am hoping that one of u can help me. Ok this is what I have don so far. I bought a new fuel pump, I dropped the gas tank cleaned it out and I also cleaned and replaced all of the gas lines, rebuilt the carb, removed the rats nest, checked spark witch is good. And I checked the compression and it is 90PSI the front and 100 in the back. sart it it will hit every now and then and most of the time it wont fire at all. I never touched my timing it my be off but I wouldn’t know why…..The story is that it was my dads old car and it didn’t pass smog so he let it sit and I came 3 years later and he gave me it and now it wont start.

Make sure that you have gas flowing to the carb, and that you have spark (I know you said spark was good, but be very certain of this, especially on the lower plugs). If you have both of those, then you are probably looking at a timing issue unless there was a mistake made while rebuilding the carb.

Try dumping a small amount of gas into the carb and briefly opening the butterflies. Then try cranking the engine. If it runs briefly you made a mistake rebuilding the carb. Remember in order for it to run you need gas,air and spark at the right time. Very unlikely your not getting air. Also on a second thought I've had trouble in the past when these engine sit for a period of time. Try removing the upper spark plugs and squirting in a teaspoon of ATF in each plug hole (I use a old turkey baster for this). If it runs and dies your compression is low..but it could just be a stuck seal. If thats the case proceed to read more and follow ATF treatments posted elsewhere.

You could also try cranking the engine with a timing light hooked up and see if it is at least in the ballpark. Far from an exact science at cranking speed, but at least it would give you an indication.

You say you have gas to the carb, but is it coming out of the carb and into the intake? Stupidly enough I just went through the same thing with a snowblower of all things. Gas went into the carb, but no into the engine. If so, from trying so much you could have flooded it. There is tons of info on flooding, but for a quick check, you could pull the plugs, see if they smell of gas, and crank it over with the plugs out and see if gas sprays out the plug holes.

you sure you put the high tension leads to the correct plugs?, cause i think everyone here has fucked that up at least once.
