PLEASE tell me what this is=X
I wt seemed tas forced to clean out my gas tank and i found this attached to one of the components in the tank....io have some kind of film over the holes that were deteriorating..i have reason to believe that this is one of the factors to my "redlining" problem

I doubt if that part is still available. You can put the fuel pickup.return unit back in without it. just keep an eye on your fuel filter, it may need changed more often. You can put a low pressure filter in the line prior to the fuel pump to help protect it from debris in the tank. Since the tank is out, I would take it down to a radiator shop that boils and reseal tanks. If you can at least have the tank boiled, you can tank sealer. The local shop here sells a can of sealer large enough to do the tank for 20 bucks. Otherwise, order a kit from Eastwood. That will eliminate most of the crap that gets sucked up by the pump. Don't use the 12A filter, it's designed for smaller fuel lines. You need one that has 3/8-5/16" barbs.
Most of the screens are gone, of the more than 1/2 dozen units that I've pulled out tanks. None of the screens were sound. They were either gone or had holes in them. I no longer bother running them because of that. Since the SE filter is after the pump, adding another filter before the pump will go a long way to extending the pump life.

while you are working on the fuel system remove the pump and check the little cone shaped strainer located in the inlet of the pump and clean it out too I had a problem with a loss of power on the high end with my SE years ago and found it was clogged with fine dirt/rust.
