Please help me ID these connectors on my 79! (pics)
Having some starting problems with a 79 SA we just aquired, so I'm troubleshooting everything. It's getting spark, and looks like it's getting fuel, we can pull start it, but if it gets below 3,000rpm it dies.
Anyway, while working on the car today, we noticed these connectors are open. Can anyone ID them? The ones in the first picture that are circled in red fit together, but I don't want to plug them in in case it's wrong. The others I'm guessing are just diagnostic, but I don't know.
First two pics are from the drivers side just behind the shock tower, last pic is obviously just above the exhaust manifold.

Yah, I can probably do that when we get back there.
Just for reference, those connectors in the first 2 pics are located between the shock tower and the firewall on the drivers side of the engine bay.

I Have the same ones disconneced. I think one is the AC, and one was the Hot Start Assist. One maybe the brake fluid level. The ones by the carb I have no idea. I have a DCOE on my car.

There's always the tried and true method of tracing the wire colors in the shop manuals...
http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/cars.html
With the connectors that look like they go together: if they have the same amount of wires on either side, and the same colors mate to each other, I'd consider it a safe bet that they are twins separated at birth.

Hi-
I have an 80, which is "similar" but there maybe some variation. Anyway;
I have several "loose" connectors beside the brake booster on my car. These do not connect to anything. My car is dead-stock and does NOT have Air, so if yours doesn't have Air either, chances are at least a couple of these do not hook up to anything. Why? I don't know.
As to the ones loose on the carb side, those DO attach to the carb. They should have a color-coded sticker on them that matches its mate on the passenger side of the carb. You might have to remove the air cleaner to see these. As someone mentioned, the colors of the wires on each connector should have a twin with the same colored wires - this will help to match them. Actually, mazda makes it pretty hard NOT to get the right connectors together because each one in a given area is usually uniquely configured to only attach to a mate in that same location.
A side note: if you have already had the air cleaner assy off and did NOT get all the various vacuum hoses, etc. properly re-attached, that can affect how the car runs!! double check to be sure all the hoses are properly attached and seated on their recepticals!!

Here's a direct link to the '79 Wiring Diagram. (18MB PDF)
The main manual page is here
And, yeah, that's my page - glad it's of some use.
