Please help with carb

can somebody please show me with a pic where the carb vent is exactly. I can't afford to flood out my motor again. Also I been searching for a vac leak and can't find one. Tried all the methods sugested in this forum. Can't get my f*&^kin motor running right. It will idle at 2000 rpms and accelerates very slowly to 4000 rpm and stops. The intire time it is backfiring and popping. I getting ready to shoot this thing.

Okay I may be making some progress. I looked in the sight glass and the fuel is at the top. I read in a thread that this is bad and it should be about half way. So I guess I have stuck floats. Could this attribute to the high idle?

tap above the fuel inlets with a soft mallat (sp?). and rebuild your carb. if they are stuck, fuel will flow in when the ignition is in the "on" position, check that too. mine was so bad it was puddling on top of the butterflys and sounded like a toilet flushing (wooosh!) when i opened the throttle with the engine off.

1. Disconnect the power to the fuel pump.

2. Run the engine until it dies from no fuel.

3. Take off the little windows covering the floats (both front and back).

4. Spray butt loads of carb cleaner in there and move the float (GENTLY!!!) up and down.

5. Put her back together and give it a try.

Of course, this is a totally redneck way of avoiding what you really should do, which is rebuild the carb...Just a suggestion if you're short on time. Good luck.

I tapped it with a hammer handle and that seemed to work. I also downloaded the carb manual that I found from searching. Very cool. So the carb is a bit more complicated than an airplane but should be doable. I also found that the throttle subreturn was not correct. So the work goes on and maybe one day it will run.

Thanks again guys. You have been very helpful. I would still be in drive way scrathing my head, if it wern't for this forum.

I don't know. It won't run now. But I think the plugs are fouled badly. Pulled the L1 plug and it was wet and black. So I will have to get new ones or maybe try media plasting them. And I am going to have to change the oil again also. Then maybe it will run. Although it wants to run now. It just can't do it. Get to 1000 rpm and dies. I will keep you guys posted, but it might be the weekend. Pay day is Friday, you know how that goes.

Took the plugs to work and media blasted them. I found two plugs that were cracked badly. The other two seemed fine. So I tested them and, it is time for new plugs. However the cracked plugs fired pretty well. But would arc to the side of the plug ever so often. This should explain why I have a starting and running problem but not the high Idle. I'll keep you posted.
