Play the "Whats wrong with my clutch" game!!!!!

Ok, I'm getting mad....... again! My clutch at first would not down shift all of a sudden when I was coming up on an intersection. Then I completely stopped, pushed the clutch in and I COULD NOT get it to go into any gear. I was just stuck there, only 3/10 of a mile from home tho! The clutch wasn't disengaging from the engine. I shut the car off and put it in first, pushed the clutch in and tried to start it and it started pulling the car along by the starter, cause it wasn't disengaging. We checked the hydrolics and the clutch is moving perfectly all the way into the tranny so it has to be the clutch or something in the tranny. We think it's the pressure plate broken. But now all of a sudden I can put it in first or whatever gear I want and its ok, but if you try shifting while moving it won't allow you! lol You can force it into 2nd from first while moving but I cring ever time I try. It still feels like it's not fully disengaging.............. what do ya think???? The car has about 95,009 miles.

Unless you are hearing bearing noise at idle from either the T/O or pilot bearing then the issue is still in the clutch hydrualics.

Pull back the boot on the clutch slave and see if it is wet. Also inspect the inside of the car where the master enters for signs of leakage.

possibly a pilot bearing, or a broken clutch fork, i trust that you checked the hydraulics. because you wouldnt say it if you didnt mean it, and for some reason people assume we are all retarded, i was in the same place and had to go as far as posting this video to prove it was all working

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyGXyOwAu6k

but one other thing it could be is a piece of clutch has broken off, and lodged itself between the disc and either PP or flywheel. this is what my problem was, i discovered this as soon as i pulled the started out, chunks were falling on me, here is a link to the thread so you can compare and contrast the situation

Hmmm sounds like ur gonna have to just crack it open and see *cringe* i did my clutch swap on my back on the ground.

When i put it all back together i learned my throw out bearing didnt pop in properly and when i pushed the clutch in it wouldn't engage the pressure plate.. that might have happened. Also i broke my slave messing with it..

Do you have any noise coming from the transmission area when the engine is running?

We have a pit we can pull the car over. Ever since I got the car the throw out bearing has made a rubbing paper sound. Everything was frozen on it and since then I've driven it about 600 miles, all of which the throw out bearing has made this noise.

The bearing has only made this noise when the clutch is pushed in.

A similar thing happened to me... drove to work in the morning one day and when a came out to go home my clutch wouldn't disengage after i depressed it once to start the car. I ended up learning how to dry shift very quickly... rev matching is your friend in these cases. The biggest problem you'll have is getting into first if you are not on a slope

Anyways, my issue ended up being a hydraulic problem.. slave i think... just throwing it out there, good luck finding the problem!

Going to have to go with bad T/O bearing.

Either way you have to tear it down.

I was really hoping it was just a fried clutch or something........ We just went over the slave like last year or so but I'll check it again. But like I said, it works all the way to the tranny when looking at it from under the hood.

it could be a bent/broken clutch fork or it could also its the pilot bearing because if that seized it would grab the end of the input shaft, and hold on, so even if the clutch is released. the engine is still spinning the engine.

but there is a big rubber gromet you could try and peak through, or you could pull the starter, and if you see chunks of clutch, or something similar, it might give you a better idea. without doing too much work
