Oh my friend it does!

Which is why I wanted the twin turbo in the Datsun

The ONLY reason I see to do a non-rotary RX7 is torque. I will be autocrossing mine but at Alfa Romeo Owners Club events near Ann Arbor. They are more fun the SCCA/NASA autocrosses and aren't as stiff about the cars.

Autocrossing requires torque and finesse, while the 12a is a fabulous mill it is hard to beat up on the morons in their Z06s without a big punch off the apex!

Man ! There's plenty of both opinions and facts. Neither are a sign of ignorance.
We can all state from our different perspectives / experiences what has happened and that is mostly fact-based. We all have formed opinions based on what we know to be true, what we perceive to be true and even what we have been led to believe is true by others.

I know what I'm trying to do. I hope you do, too. I don't care what engine you have in your Rx-7, just like you could give a **** what I've got going on. That's the beauty of this forum.

I think we mostly agree ( except maybe the ignorance part ).

Maybe all forums of this type should make you read a disclaimer saying "Beware of opinions represented as facts". No, that's no good, because we all meet and interact with people every day and we all filter what they say ( some more than others ). Some you automatically let go in one ear and out the other; some you consider but don't buy into; and some you take as fact. It's up to you whether you take is as fact or not no matter how it is represented or who feeds it to you.

I guess I didn't realize I did! Most be some deep personal jealousy or something.

Add to that the fact I have @ $2000.00 in my car and they can't replace their tires for that, it kinda narrows out my perspective a bit.

(P.S. We do have Moron Z06 drivers, but most were Morons long before they owned cars. The fact is they are out there with a nice quick car getting worse every run and allowing a lowly (last year) Merkur xr4ti keep pace witht them... that's bad)

Dang you got me!! LOL. I was typing fast and got my letters mixed up. Happens all the time. Look, peace man, I know that changing an engine is for some people and not for others. We can all get overly technical on stuff like the "sole of a car" or such things like that. I see Rotary powered Datsun 510's all the time and no one makes a big deal about swapping rotary engines into piston cars. Yes, I agree that the rotary engine is a wonerous marvel of technical genius. What else has two compression devices, 4 spark plugs, 6 combustion chambers and no valves?

I happen to be doing the swap for the simple reason that I "want to". I don't 'need' more power or torque or what ever other advantages a v8 adds to an rx7. I simply think that it is completely a cool swap. People also think I'm nuts for putting a v8 in my Astro van. But it runs 10 times smoother than the original v6, gets better gas mileage and has more power and torque. But mostly what I like is the look on peoples faces when I tell and show them a v8 in an Astro van. When they ask me why, I tell them because I wanted to see if I could do it. That is why I am doing this swap.

Yes, I am highly opinionated, and yes I have done engine swaps before. I know a guy who put a Ford Taurus SHO motor into an Austin Healy. Very quiet fast car. I know a guy who put a 427 Chevy into an MGB. That was a bit insane. Not enough? How about a 426 Chrylser Hemi with Nitrous in a T-Bucket?

How about Ford using Mazda rotary engines in their pickups? Yeah, remember the courier? Well I guess that was actually a mazda pickup with Ford nameplates.

How about the AC Cobra? Engine Swap. Ford Taurus SHO: I think that engine is built by Yamaha. There are many more. Face it, people have been swapping engines in cars since cars were invented.

I just like doing it. I have an Rx7. I have a 350. I like doing that type of thing. Each to their own.

Later,
Bill.
