pilot bearing seal?

today i replaced the clutch in my buddies 85, all the actual work took all of a half an hour but while it was apart we realized the clutch kit came with a pilot bearing but NOT a seal so i called and searched dealerships and every parts store around and no one could get a pilot bearing seal...

when i did my clutch last year i remember i had to order a pilot bearing and seal from atkins cuz i had teh same problem but since this time we were in a hurry i just loaded the bearing up with grease and put it back together without a seal

my question is where do u guys get your seals? and why the **** does everybody say these cars dont use a seal when i KNOW they do because i take a bad one out everytime i do a clutch

You buy them from the Dealer or Mazdatrix or Racing beat, or Rockauto or Napa, etc....

Beck Arnley # 052-3471 from regular parts houses.

1881-11-404 through the dealer.

the grease u put in it when u install a new one works its way out, eventually running the bearing dry and to destruction.

Seals are almost never good once they've been removed.

Used bearing may or may not be OK, but it's one of those "while you're in there" low-cost things you replace to avoid having to tear everything apart again later if it borks.

Joe,

Not to be mean or anything, but are you that helpless?

I've supplied the factory part number and the after market part number. That's all you have to do is go to the sites and see what it costs! Quit being so damn lazy!

We don't know what came in your cluth kit unless you tell us. The last clutch kit I bought from Advanced Auto come with Clutch disk, clutch plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing. You'll also need some brake cleaner to clean the surface of the disk. I also clean the rear engine plate and inside the trans of all grease before putting back together. Remove and replace the gear oil in the trans one fit in place. I use synthetic gear oil for the trans (2 quarts). I also put fresh gear oil wheree the shifter goes.

You don't need to disconnect the slave from the hose, Joe; just unbolt it from the bell housing and swing it up out of the way before you drop the tranny. It won't leak fluid unless the piston is really worn. Wrap it in a rag to be safe.

Just DON'T step on the clutch pedal while it's disconnected from the trans, or it'll shoot the piston into some dark corner of your garage and spray brake fluid all over the place.

what are the odds of me getting away with not resurfacing the flywheel? what do i need to do to the flywheel otherwise to prep it?

You don't have to resurface the flywheel but if you want the most life and best operation of the clutch then it should be performed.

Resurfacing not only restores a new surface for proper gripping but restores the proper deck height for mounting the pressure plate.

If their a lot of "Heat" spots on the flywheel or heavy scoring then resurface it. Otherwise just scuff the surface with sandpaper, spray it clean with some brake cleaner and be done with it.
