Pilot Bearing Question

Hi All~

I'd just like to ask if anyone knows what, aside from age and wear, the usual cause of pilot bearing failure is. I changed mine about 4 months ago when I put in the ACT and I think it shat itself this weekend. However, I'm about 60% sure that it's the pilot bearing and I'm curious if there's something about the tranny that could cause such quick and sudden failure.

Thanks

Failure to grease the bearing and end of the input shaft upon installation is one cause.
Not having the disc aligned 100% percent upon installation and forcing the trans in is another.
Excessive input bearing shaft play on the trans is another.

thanks for the response.

i think i'm a victim of your third option. i can hear the tranny making noises, so i think it's time to yank it out and get it rebuilt.
