A-pillar gauge pods

Anyone make one for are car or do you have to use the fc or fd one and trim to fit. Or just use the 3 pod style that only goes half way up? Show me some pics of where you mount your gauges at. Gonna need at least three maybe four spots. Boost gauge all ready where the clock was!

Still need a spot for wideband oil pressure fuel pressure and oil temp!

Be aware the cheaper one is a GLUE ON vs the more expensive one replaces the entire piece of trim, as if you had bought a new a pillar trim peice vs the cheap one glueing onto the existing trim piece.

So you know.

My 79sa a-pillar is the same size as my brother's 82fb. I bought the full pillar for both, and both fit fine. I had to trim a very small piece at the very bottom corner of it, where the pillar meets the windshield and the dash. I think it fits very nicely, I can take pictures tonight if you like, to have a better idea.
Forgot to add that the pillars are from gaugepods.com

Here are some pictures of my pod. Don't mind the very messy interior. I haven't really finished installing the pod yet, it's only tucked in at the bottom, and there is only one screw at the top. It still gives you a pretty good idea though. With one more screw in the middle, it will hold it in nice and tight. In the third and forth picture, you can kind of see the bottom of the pillar where I trimmed it. I only had to take off about half an inch on the corner, just so it would sit better on the bottom.

Mechanical are generally more expensive, but provide quicker and more accurate readings...usually.

That being said you normally cannot cut the "wires" (sensor tubes) so at some point you need to have a coil of sensor tubing in the car.

pinoyremix, electric usually works better in an air cooled VW.

A mechanical temperature guage is usually a good length for most front engine vehicles. Like dj said, you can't cut it because the small tube is filled with something that you don't want to get into. The bulb thing at the end is called a thermocouple. Cheap guages have a spiral wrapped outer protective wire running the length of the inner sensing tube. They can pickup stray engine bay heat and provide a slightly less accurate reading compared to the more expensive fully shielded guages.

If it's an oil temp or boost guage, you can cut the nylon tube to whatever length you want.

I just used a cheap over the A-pillar one for like 5 bucks off E-Bay. Yes, I had to trim it. Yes, I had to heat up the edjes to mold it. And yes, I had to "glue" it on. I actually used pop rivets to hold it in place. Then I fiberglassed around the edges. I wanted my gauges up a little higher than most people, plus I wanted to put my recall tach there also.

If you're going to run a mechanical fuel pressure gauge, use an isolator so no fuel will end up inside the cabin if there's a leak. For this very reason, I ran an electric fuel press gauge and a mechanical boost gauge.

I just ordered a universal 3 gauge din from glow shift for like 12 bucks or something. The gauges are angled like a z car has them. Will post pics when i get it installed.
