Yeah, its a "dohickey" to reduce electrical interferrence in electronics like the stereo and junk from what Ive gathered. I yanked it off my old engine when I pulled the emissions and didnt notice a change in anything. Theres one on the distributor too.

All it is is a condensor. It reduces EM noise interfearance so you can still "bump" your goonit from the radio. Try taking it off one day in the dark and in the right weather conditions you could probably see the ignition happening.

The oil pressure sender unit this is on the rear rotor housing, drivers side, under the beehive oil cooler, its kind of a bell shaped thing and there is a little connector that slides onto the end nipple of it, ive had it fall off many times myself...

Yes, I am aware of that pressure sensor below the oil filter, but disconnecting the "condensor" or whatever it is still causes the oil pressure gauge to malfunction on at least 3 seperate 84-85 model RX-7's I checked to be sure it was not a fluke.

Someone with a 84-85 FB disconnect yours for expermental purposes and tell me if it effects your oil pressure gauge function!

That particular condenser does connect to the oil pressure gauge. You can see it shown in the wiring diagrams. The wire broke on mine ('84 GSL-SE) and the gauge still works fine.
