Pictures of Miata Shorties installed?

Does anyone have a picture of their rex with the miata short shifter in it? How high up is the shifter, is it still stock height with a shorter throw or is it shortened in height with a shorter throw?

Not the best picture in the world for this, but it shows it retains stock placement.

I don't have the Miata short throw, I make my own instead. I prefer to keep the length as near as stock as possible. Reason being is it takes more force to change gears due to the leverage difference. While mine looks stock from all outward appearances, the travel is much shorter and quicker. The added length also adds a safety assurance factor/feel that lets me know I'm in the intended gear. Overall, the total **** travel is about 1/2 of what stock was. For me, knowing that I'm in the right gear is more important than how the height of the shifter looks.

Good point to note Trochoid. I would say that after working in the miata shifter in the last 5 months it's around 1/2 **** travel as well, initially it was even less then that. That being said, I easily know what gear I'm in and since it retains similar height and at a price you can't beat on top of the great difference in throw size and leverage, I would consider it a great deal.

It's definitely an upgrade from stock. shorter throws, and i think it feels nice in general.

In all honesty, at 40 bucks maximum it's worth giving a shot just to see if it suits you. If not, as Trochoid says, he makes his own as well as Mazdatrix and another member on the boards who I'm sure you could get in touch.

I have only tried the Mazdatrix shorty and it was definitely worth it.

A note with the miata shifters. The thread size is smaller than that of the the stock shift ****.

i believe in some of them you have to sand the lower bushing down a bit to make it fit, but that's it.

I spent $25 on an ebay miata short shifter and it has been in my FC and 3 FB's now... It has never rattles, and shifts smother and shorter than any $150 shifter I've ever used. Win. Pix suck, but it's the miata short shifter with a stock NA3 shift ****. Total throw from 1st to 2nd is about 2.5 inches.
