oven cleaner from CVS. It was a late night project and CVS was the only place open at 1am. It says it can be used on grills etc.. so i figured it was safe and would do the trick.

hells yeah. was it just spray-on and wash-off, or was there elbow grease involved?

yeah it recommended spraying it on, letting it sit for 20-25 minutes then washing it off. I was quite pleased with the results for $6. Oh yeah and if anyone else tries this get some nice rubber gloves like up to the elbow. It recommends them in the directions and if that stuff gets on you it kills. watch your eyes too.

Be careful, oven cleaner is nasty ****. It really likes to eat aluminum and other soft metals. Rinse REALLY well, and dont let it soak too long. It also like to eat gaskets. FYI

Sunlight Industrial Oven Cleaner is what i use, works great. Just let it sit for about 10 minutes, wash it off, repeat.
