yeap, sounds like the acc-pump diaphram most likely. its happened to me before, they get old and gas eventually ruins them, even though, they are always in contact with gas and then if its been sitting for a very long time, the diaphram dries out and isn't flexible anymore and leaks.

I have an 83 too factory minus handbuilt headers and hand built exhaust. I need some help!!!!!! just lost a wheel bearing, drained dope and lost the diff. I have an 85 parts beast (GL) will the diff fit???????
