Picked up some rotors and a E-Shaft!

for 30 big ones! and the rest of the motor 2 weeks prior for 20 bucks! anyways, to the point. I'm in the process of cleaning the grime and the grease off to rebuild - how gentle do i need to be with the rotors and the housings? is a wire brush and brakleen / goo gone too much? i've been using those green scotch brite pads so far but we all know how soft those are. will post some before / after pics also.

i tried those green Scotch Brite pads before. i found them to be useless for the most part.

typically, i soak rotors in kerosene for a while and equip myself with an old side seal, a small screwdriver and a razor blade. that usually takes care of the heavy carbon, soot and oil. after that, i use an assortment of wet sandpaper. the only place where i use really abrasive stuff is the rotor recess, which i usually smoothen anyway.

i wouldn't use the wire brush on the bearings/shaft/inside of the rotor housings, but everywhere else its ok.

i use a razor blade on the rotor faces to scrape the big stuff off, and then either a scotch brite and some cleaner, or i'll use like 600 grit sandpaper and sand it so its shiny.

I cleaned mine with a brass wheel on a drill. I used little to no pressure and let the wheel do all the work and it worked great with no scratches at all.
