Picked up "new" FB today

I picked up an 85 GS today for $500. Body is in pretty good condition. A couple of small places on it but nothing extremely major. Took it home, put a new battery in and atf'd it. First time I hit the key, it started an ran smooth as hell.
Got a question on the color. The paint code is L6. Paintscratch.com calls it Rhyl Blue Mettalic Clearcoat. Looks kinda green to me. I've seen this color a couple of times, but not very often. How rare is it?
I'll post some pics later.

that would be me. i would buy that car right now just based on the color. and just for reference, the color code L6 is ocean blue metallic, not royal blue. not really too rare of a color, but more a color seen in the southern U.S. 85 RX-7's.

Yea it's rare but then again you can repaint an old FB to any color. Unless it's been garaged it's gonna need painting to be perfect just from years of UV exposure. And yes I know it's easier if the base is already matching then you don't have to paint the engine compart and inside doors etc.

I do like the color and don't remember it back in the day. I went to the Mazda dealer and remember row's of brand new FB's. I drooled all over the place. But never remember a nice light blue like that.

I was thining Hot Rod Flatz mint blue would look sweet on an FB. Could add some color changing or plain metal flakes to the base to
give it that metallic. Oh well or just order the OEM paint. It's good..

edit: Wait that mint is no where near it..

Seafoam Green.. closer

ocean blue metallic seemed to be more of a color sold in the southern U.S. its color really doesn'tmake the car worth more. its rarity comes because it was a color produced only for the 1985 model year.

Thumbs up

Any type of old out dated car can be a money pit, But if the owner loves the car, It is worth it to them for a personal note. I get critized for dumping what little i have on mine, And not going to buy something worth a better Value. I just LOVE Rotary powered vehilcles old or not.

I have never heard more truth spoken in my life than this man right here!

Hence in my signature why it was sold and I just acquired an '84 GSL-SE as of last weekend.

My FD Raped my wallet for the years I had it and I had had enough. So I sold it. The best decision of my wallets life! You have to have some deep pockets to own an FD properly and to take care of it. I mean DEEP Pockets! Like you should be able to blow $3,000 on rims on a whim to own an FD. if you cannot do that then don't own one. Trust Me!!! Bye Bye FD. One day I will own another one just no time soon while in College.

Sorry about my ranting, congrats on the New FB and may your lives be happy together! FB's are easy on the wallet and can tend to run freaking forever! As time goes on they will become more rare. Take care of her and she will take care of you!

p.s. sorry about the tangent.

The First Gen Guys sound like some real common decent guys, Unlike some others on this site who own 3rd gens who act like f-cking spoiled kids.
