Pic:Old tires are bad for you health, and other random pics

To start off I was on my way out for a day of auto-x with my sexy lady cruzin the 7 down the hiway goin like 70 when,..... PDBLRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. SOUNDED LIKE REALY BAD BACKFIRING, so I shut off the car and pulled over, decided it wasnt the engine since it kept goin after i shut off the car. get out and my spare that was in my car when i got it (but looked brand new and still had the little nubins on it) had let go of its tred and pounded the s*%t out of my left rear quarter. as youll see in the pics its bugered real good
The rest of the pics are of my '80 that my dad and I stripped and disposed of yesterday, she was rusty, mainly just the huge dent in the side.

heres the best picture i have of my car before i dented the side and my tire threw its fit, and a pic of the pile of partsretrieved from the '80 and one of my disasembled engine waiting for some $$$ to get new apex seals, got it resurfaced and I ported it. the last two are my cats, Nitro and Nick they aid in the de-agravasion periods away from my car, school and work. plus my spare engine, anone have and extra tiny plastic gear for the output on the motor for one? I busted mine in two

Just thought Ide share

anyone ever had that kind of damage repaired?, If so how much?, I fear the only cure would be a body kit

That's not bad. I used to pull those out of race cars every couple weeks. Any decent body man can do it for a couple hundred. Just take it around to a couple places and tell 'em it's not an insurance job but you can leave it there for a few days and you'll pay cash. I assume you have some paint left over from the re-paint?

What the heck kind of tire was it that blew? Tires are pretty cheap. Around here you can pick up half-used tires for about $15. I got a few used rx-7 Michelin Metrics (from CostCo!) that I'd dump for that or less. And Tirerack.com has damn good prices to deliver right to your door.

I took a body repair class back in fall 2004 at the local Comm. Colege.
Yes you can repair it, its not to tough if you have the right tools.
Yu can use a "slapping spoon" and wedge it in from inside the car and gently push it out until its as close to the original contour as possible. Don't try to push it out all in one pull or it'll do more damage. Push it out as much as you can, don't worry about pushing it out to much, it's better to hammer down a high spot then fill in a low spot with bondo.
No matter what you will need to finish it off with a thin coat of Body filler to smooth out all the imperfections.
Or you can just cut out the damaged area and get a panel from another car and weld it in. Then all you have to do is get rid of the weld line that would be left on the top of the panel, as the other weld would be done from inside the wheel well and from below to hide as much as possible.
Either way is suitable for that kind of damage.

Nice pile of parts.

I had a tire come apart the same way. No damage though we were going much slower.
