Exclamation Phase 1: Get it running

Ok so I have a 79 SA, that I got for free (cant beat that price!! ). When I got it it was ...well not so clean. Cobwebs, spiders, tree limbs, auto parts, and grass, oh and not to forget the rust, all resided in it. Thus far I put in new NGK plugs and wires, and replaced the battery. I reconnected all the hoses and took the doors apart to get the windows up, I pulled out the interior and am removing the sound tar. I checked the oil, clean, checked the radiator, clean, hand cranked it, and it turned. Found out it has a freshly rebuilt motor, and new clutch. 2 things i dont need to do now. So I go to start it, I turn the key a bit to listen for the fuel pump and sure enough, it buzzed. Good, I poured 5 gallons of gas in the tank, pour a little in the carb and turned the key, it sputtered, and sputtered and sounded like it was gonna start, but died. After checking the carb, I noticed that there was no fuel getting to it. I checked the fuel filter and it was beige, dirty as a sailors mouth. So I went and spent $3 and got a new one, put it on and ran the battery directly to the fuel pump. After watching a bit I noticed a black tar coming from the lines. New filter is now hosed. Looks to me like the PO tried putting gas tank sealant in it and it is now comin from the lines. So I have 2 gallons of Krud Kutter, that I am going to use this weekend and clean out the gas tank. I will post pictures during this weekend. Also this is only phase 1 of 4 to get this car completely done, subscribe to this thread and follow along

Fix that tank right, because you'll be hard pressed to find another. I know from experience.
