That's my friend's 92 Cabrio which has a ton of work done to it. We swapped the engine for another counterflow 8 valve engine, with a dual outlet manifold, side exit exhaust, and a custom intake that made us relocate the battery to the trunk. He also removed the back seats and put in carpet where they used to be, which looks really good.

I couldn't take those pics today because of the rain, I might be able to do them tomorrow.

and I'll see what I can do about some high res pics. I may be able to host them on Red Pepper Racing's image gallery.

Looks beautiful.

But after putting such a phenomenal-looking engine in... the stock Nikki really doesn't fit. Get a Sterling on there for goodness' sake!!

But yes, I'm very jealous

Yeah, that's my name, Just as we were leaving Pettit, we started joking around about monogramming the Rotor housings, and that ended up happening, somewhat like a tattoo?

The camera I'm using is a Cannon Rebel XTi EOS 400D digital SLR. It was really expensive, but this has to be the nicest camera I've ever used. In a few of the shots I used a Cannon Wide angle lens, which puts my 30 year old, super expensive Minolta SRT 101 lenses to shame.

I tried to use Red Pepper Racing's Gallery to upload some high res pics, but it refuses to work for me right now.

Hey very nice, very clean FB. So jealous of how good the engine looks. I was actually thinking of getting a similar VW to keep the 7 out of the snow and the miles down. How does your friend like his? Kind of a random question but are those Pumas you were wearing good for driving? I need something good for heel-toe shifting. Sorry to run off topic but very nice FB!

This one too, with a different image host and a larger allowed file size.

Page breakers.

EDIT: Let's try that again, that image host did nothing.

Now that it's all high res, that **** is bunk! Nah man I'm joking. Made me finally decide on white and keeping the trim instead of shaved and silver. Way to be.

**UPDATE TIME!**

I have almost 800 miles on it so far, and it's running excellent with kickass gas mileage too. I'm getting around 24 MPG, which is awesome compared to my old engine that got 16. I also cracked open the secondaries yesterday passing someone for almost a second before I backed off, reminding myself of the new engine. Holy crap those secondaries are serious. It pulled REALLY hard when they opened up.

BTW, Did I mention that Magnaflows suck? After the car is broken in I'll see if I can get a video up with some exhaust noise. Keep in mind that none of the exhaust noise is coming from the tips, all of the exhaust noise on the car comes from the oval-shaped magnaflow in the middle of the system, with it's resonating sides. It's so loud that I can imagine looking under the car and seeing the sides of the can vibrating, at speed it sounds like someone rubbing a wet finger on a wine glass, into a megaphone.

On that note, I wonder if a Pettit resonated midpipe could be worked into a custom exhaust system...they really do sound nice and do not rattle the cabin at all.

The whole exhaust system needs to be redone, The pipes are leftover thick stainless pipes from my friend's Jetta TDi, they're not ringing at all. The ringing is definitely coming from the magnaflow that doesn't need to be there. When I redo it I'd like to go either true dual with Borla XR-1's or long primaries into a RacingBeat muffler designed for the long primaries. My current RacingBeat muffler has the single 2" pipe, and I think it's quieter than stock, even without presilencers.

On a side note: I hate ricers. Some kid in a second gen Integra kept trying to race me in traffic. He would wind his ear shatteringly loud LS up to redline, with a HUGE cloud of smoke for some reason (like it was running really rich), which also took way too long to reach redline, in neutral. So after a few miles of badgering, he took off in typical ricer flyby fashion, which really wasn't that spectacular. Honestly, I think my friend's MK1 VW was faster even when it was stock.

Woo, Videos!

Sitting in my driveway, blipping the throttle...

Going for a drive, notice the resonating exhaust, and my horrible rear end noise...

MODS: if a mod is reading this, can you please edit my first post to take out the bit about 81WideMariah, the engine belonged to his friend, not him, so he didn't rip me off.

Wow that magnaflow is seriously shitty. A Borla would comliment that motor nicely. Looks great and at least it sounded like it pulled hard, video quality wasn't the best LOL

Good luck with the exhaust and rear end. I still say you should get thickwall pipe.

I'd like to find a GSL rear end to rebuild and put Kia gears in, but I'd have to find one first, all the 1st gens that show up in junkyards around here have drums.

For exhaust, I was thinking of doing long primaries collected just before the axle into 2.5" SS piping, and either into this magaflow... (You guys are probably going to beat me with a stick for even suggesting it.)

Or this Borla... (yay)
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

The only thing I'm worried about with the Borla is the oval shape, I don't want another resonating can under my car. That's why I was thinking about that Magnaflow, because it's round, and baffled, not packed full of flamable fuzz like my current Magnaflow.

Wow. So, that's what an original white Rex should look like. Mine's too faded. And, outstanding pics of the engine and car. Two thumbs up for the fact that YOU YOURSELF did all the work, and such attention to detail and hard workmanship.

And, as far as exhaust, from what I read, you want Borla because their material inside their mufflers don't melt like Magnaflow's does.
