The Pettit 12A meets my RX7! *even DSL might have trouble*
After months of procrastinating, painting, and other non-engine-installing foolishness (about 7 months of bullshit courtesy of 81WideMariah and his thievery) My new Pettit racing 12A is finally installed and running perfectly, it's so much faster than my old 12A. Anyways, here are some pics showing garage carnage. But first, a recap of the engine as I got it from Pettit.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/EDGE540/0602.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/EDGE540/0605.jpg Home brew OMP blockoff plate. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/EDGE540/0598.jpg Getting ready, painting and cleaning things. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress013.jpg Painted water pump, dual belt pulley and alternator off of my friends FC. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress014.jpg My $50 header coated with that 1500 degree ceramic paint, which has actually been holding up quite well, it just got kind of ashy. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress017.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress024.jpg I broke the oil level sensor when I was installing it, so after seeing how much a new one was, ($160) I said fuck it and made another aluminum blockoff plate. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress024.jpg Almost in, oh snap! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress035.jpg W00T it's in! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress037.jpg "Hurr... Is dis a beer keg?" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress041.jpg "What are these oil coolers you speak of?" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress040.jpg CARBUETOR! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress043.jpg AIRRRRRRRRR conditioning. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress044.jpg It runs like a dream, so much more powerful, even though I'm still breaking it in, keeping it off the secondaries and under 4k rpm, it's almost as fast as my old engine was at WOT. Now for some nice pictures. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...d_v-dub028.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...d_v-dub049.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...d_v-dub047.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...d_v-dub015.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...8-22-07001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...d_v-dub012.jpg The end? |
Very nice, congrats! Well done on the clean and tidy engine comparment too. I wish mine could be half as nice.

Nice looking car, very clean, I like it! Any idea what kind of hp that has?
|
Props to an 18 year old who can do most of the work himself. Very nice looking ride! :icon_tup:
|
Nice and clean installl ... ya'll just wait till I start picture post whoring of my car when its done ..
|
Thanks for the replies guys. I screwed up some of the pictures and can't go back to edit them, so I'll just post them here.
Closeup of the alternator pulley, sadly this alternator had a regulator failure, so I had to go back to a stock 50 amp temporarily. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress029.jpg Here's that stupid blockoff plate I made for the oil level sensor that broke, and my shiny new oil pan bolts. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rogress026.jpg And I did do most of the work all by my self in my garage, and at Pettit's shop. They let me hang around at the shop to help build the engine and learn, it was really cool. A few days ago I brought the car back to Pettit racing to pick up some more Protek R oil*, Cam was really impressed at how good a job I did by myself, and how clean I got the engine bay. (The engine bay was so dirty, the white paint that was visible had turned yellow) *Which is not MMO, contrary to popular belief. It smells like Vitamin C pills and is more thick and dark than MMO, and smokeless too. :D |
vary nice. you should get a video of her running.
|
Very nice...now we need some finished underhood shots...and the AT&T DSL connection didn't have a problem loading this thread up in quick fashion...:D
 |
I'll take some finished underhood shots tomorrow. I'll see about a video too, I don't have a camera that will do video, just a digital SLR that takes really nice still pictures. :)

whats with the block off plate on the oil pan?
|
Great Job, and beautiful 7, very clean!
|
Ah, so that's why the side plates are flat black. Nice work.

The irons are actually kind of a slate gray, and all of the aluminum parts are powdercoated metallic silver. BTW: I got the FMOC, UPS banged it up a little bit, so I spent a few days straightening fins. It looks really nice now, next step is getting it cleaned, then finding out what I should do for oil cooler lines... AN fittings are awesome, but modded FC lines are so easy for me to do. Decisions, decisions. :) |
that is very nice and very clean. congrats on one of the nicest looking fb's I've seen in a while.

I'm the same age as you but I have to say kudos to this. You've got quite the know-how, in the future I'd like to do my own engine swaps but at the moment I'm content with someone else doing them for me :lol2:

Nice job on the car -- I would love to hear how it sounds! |
That's actually an updated shot of this picture.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0/DSCF0256.jpg I want to go back to this warehouse and take more like this one too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...0/DSCF0053.jpg But they put up trespassing signs to keep me and my cars away. :uhh: Here's a few more for kicks. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...d_v-dub017.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...8-22-07018.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...v-dub028-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...daytime003.jpg separated at birth? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...daytime014.jpg They should be much bigger, but photobucket gets all retarded and downsizes them. |
