Question Performance Airfilter Options?

I was looking at the K&N filters, but they use your existing housing (the ugly blue thing with the neck). Is there a nice round chrome one, thats open all around it, that would bolt in there? I'm looking for as much performance (and looks) that I can get on my old 12A. The car is an 83 GSL if that matters.

Thanks,
Matt

The thing about those open type filters is you're sucking in hot air out of the engine bay. If you want performance you should run a cold air feed to the stock airbox and a K&N filter. On mine I thought the stock snorkel looked a bit restrictive so I removed it, opened the hole up quite a bit and moulded some 100mm PVC pipe to suit which I then riveted on. I then ran some large rubber hose up to the snorkel from in front of the radiator. Here's what it looks like.

Is that bad? (I thought that by not attaching the hoses, it eliminates lots of the emission controls...)

BTW--You're engine bay looks very nice, REVHED!

Re: Performance Airfilter Options?

IF you have a 12A with stock carburetor like I do, I used the Mariah Motor Sports Setup. It is a low profile setup. You will have to do some cutting on the bottom part of the original air clear piece, but it will retain all the necessary connections, as you will be using the original bottom part of your air cleaner. If you want to see how it looks after finished check my website. http://www.rotaryrx7.com
