I am new to the first gens. are they only available with carbs? can a second gen engine be droped in? is it difficult? what is the weight of a first gen? which is the best model, and what does each model have that others dont? what kind of acceleration can I expect to get for around 3k in an engine (hopefully including new engine). what about handling? thanks

2nd Gen engine can be used with some parts of a 1st gen.
Weight varies by models and year.
S, GS, LE, GSL, GSL-SE different models.
3K, depends on many variables..engine isn't everything.
Handling?...What about it?
You are posting very general questions. By your post count (1), I see that you are new here. Take some time to look around and read posts from months ago through now. All those questions will be answered, as they have been repeatedly.
Most everyone here is friendly (myself included), but I did read up and look stuff up before I asked questions that could easily have been found.

ok.....a lot of questions...
1. almost all have carbs..I think the GSL-SE(84-85) might have had a fuel-injection option....don't quote me on that.
2. yes a second gen engine can be dropped in..it's not easy but it's easier then dropping any other engine in. You'll need a new fuel pump, injecters, and the engine dosn't fit right in, but you can buy a part from http://www.racingbeat.com that will allow it to fit.
3. the acceleration feels faster then it really is. I think the 0-60 on my 83 is about 9-10 sec. not that good I know....but the car has lots of potential, remember it's not very heavy so even a 30 hp gain will do a lot.
4. handling is excellent, I don't think anyone will tell you different. hope that helps
