People with T2 transmissions!!

People with T2 transmissions!!

No, i'm not asking how to swap in a t2 transmission. I just need to know 100% what flywheel I need to use. I got a S4 6 port motor. This means I need a counterweight from a automatic S4 6 port and lightweight flywheel?? My buddy is telling me that a S4 T2 flywheel will work fine. I have a brand new S4 T2 flywheel so that would be nice, but from what i'm understanding it wont work. I need to know for certain.

Who can straighten this out for me??

Front counterweights are the same between N/A and turbo engines.

S4 front counterweight - either S4 N/A or S4 turbo flywheel will work.
S5 front counterweight - either S5 N/A or S5 turbo flywheel will work!

As long as the flywheel matches the appropriate series engine, You'll be fine!

So, I got the old flywheel off. The number on the back of the old flywheel is 304. According to mazdatrix that is a GSL-SE flywheel. So, this means I have a GSL-SE motor? WTF!!!

I can't use the S4 T2 Flywheel now correct?

If the engine internals, and front counterweight are all GSL-SE stuff then no I don't think you can. Are you sure some previous owner didn't put the SE flywheel on in error?

I have no clue what the previous owner might've done.

At first I believed it to be a GSL-SE motor. My buddy who had a S4 6 port turbo told me my motor was a S4 forsure. Looking at the apex seals through the exhaust ports they don't look like 3mm seals which would be GSL-SE .

If it was a GSL-SE flywheel on a S4 6 port motor it would've crapped out right? I've been running that GSL-SE flywheel on whatever that motor is for over 3 years now. Spirited driving.

I'm probably just going to order new flywheel this morning and get counterweight unless somehow I find out I have a forsure S4 6 port block.

Yeah, some pictures would definatly help. I'm not sure how different the flywheel's are between the S3 and S4 13b's, so I'm not sure how out of balance it would make it...

Do the exhaust ports have noise diffuser's? If so then its not a gsl-se. At least the rotor housings that is. Series 4 & 5 NA engines have the diffuser's in them.

the s4 engines have an EGR valve on top, and underneath the primary intake ports is a freeze plug.

So you know too this motor has been rebuilt by Jim Mezurik(sp). He was a very reptuable mazda rebuilder in nevada. I'm guessing I might have a GSL-SE block with maybe totally different internals.

My buddy is telling me to still run the flywheel. He said anything under 10,000 rpm and you'll be fine.

What to do...

those are gsl-se rotor housings.

a 304 flywheel would suggest that it has gsl-se rotors too, which means you NEED to keep the GSL-SE balance, and get the right counterweight.

if it DOES have 2mm seals, then you should put a flashlight in there, and see if the combustion chamber is cast (s4) or machined (s5+).
