Pedal box troubles.
I just recently swapped a Manual from an 84 GS into a 83 GSL Auto.
I am trying to swap the pedal boxes out, but the 84 one doesn't seem to fit into the 83 body correctly.
Am I just a bumbling fool or is the fitment different?
I saw that there was at least 1 difference: in the 84, the pin for the clutch pedal spring is welded in.
Does anyone have the pin for the clutch spring from an 83?
That way I could put the 83 pedal box back in.

I figured there was a difference between 83 and 84. This is due to the helper spring on the 84-85 cars. Part of the frame or pedal bracket was redisigned to support the spring. Perhaps they changed the location of the clutch master slightly.
I bought one of these 84-85 assemblies off the forum a few years ago to install in an 81 chassis. I never got around to it, probably for this reason. Then I wanted to install it in an 83 chassis. Stuff came up and it never happened. Now I'm glad I didn't bother.
Then just a couple months ago I pulled the clutch pedal and threw it in the GLC which needed one because the previous owner, who did the original rotary conversion, screwed up the original pedal and bent it all wrong which caused the push rod to always have some side load which wore out the clutch master piston and seal in only like 1000 miles. The new 84-85 pedal needed to be bent here and there to clear the inner wheel well and to make sure the rod would go in straight. I wasn't able to use the helper spring but the end result is actually quite acceptible. The pedal is plenty easy. Kinda makes me think about swapping in a slightly heavier pressure plate next time I'm in there for a clutch job. Also lots of good travel now, unlike before when it would hit the wheel well and deflect, causing even more side loading of the piston seal.
Edit: oh yeah, so I used the 84-85 pivot bolt seeing as the original was also bent and required a dremel with a cutting disc to cut in front of the bend just to get the bolt out.
