Yes, First stop spelling just with jsut

Then use the search function with the key words, "emission testing". Also use the term denatured alcohol. You will find many threads on the subject.

Also scroll down to the bottom of the page when you enter the thread. You will see related threads on the subject.

I'm in same boat(1985 GL-1.1liter). I'm on my first DMV extension. I've been told to try putting a new generic catalytic converter on it, as well as rebuilding the carburetor. I don't want to put a lot of money in it. Try looking for a Mazda Specialty Shop like the one I found in Northern California (Mazda Rick's 925-484-2324. Good luck. Let us know what you come up with.

That's what my "certified mazda mechanic" said too, and his hack-job tune-up put me in a worse position than when I started. i paid over a thousand dollars for a $300 dollar job that I could've done myself, provided I had the parts. If you do take it in, have him check the oxygen sensors. They can make your emissions go crazy...like passing cruising and failing idling the first time, then failing both the second time....

There are only two places I know of that I'd trust: Hayes Rotary (which is now First Stop Performance) in Auburn Washington, and Pineapple Motors in Portland Oregon. Let us know how this Rick's works out.
