Passed NJ smog with flying colors

Not sure if anyone actually cares, but I'm posting the results from the inspection on my 83 project car.

NOx limit-1577 reading-136
HC limit-203 reading-44
CO% limit-1.15 reading-0.02

Not too shabby for a carb'd 12a with racing beat headers, power pulse muffer and a $30 catco universal cat I bought on ebay. The engine is basically stock, that helps too. Just proves that you can pass with headers on there, many on here claim that just having the one cat won't work but it does.

Nice #'s, did you do any fudging with the fuel, or run straight gasoline?

Congrats on getting your car running and I assume on the road. You put huge amounts of work into that previously almost basket case. Another FB saved from the crusher.

The aftermarket cats combine all of the functions that the old multi cats uses to do....both HC and NO2 reduction.

The only problem with the aftermarket cats are that they don't last very long.

Expect at that the next inspection, the HC will increase, followed by failure eventually. The hot rotary gasses are hard on the cat.

Nj Emissions suck. I still find my ways to pass though. Even if it means $60.

It still has the rats nest, although I don't know if any of those solenoids actually work or do anything, and fuel was just a tank of regular, no pre mix just running the OMP. Timing was normal and everything, I didn't need to do anything special to make it pass which was nice, the only thing that would prevent me from taking it to a state run facility would be the fact that the header would probably raise some eyebrows and possibly make it fail visual (although I really doubt it)
RxDad you're right, modern cats are much much much more efficient than the old stuff our cars came with, but yea aftermarket cats will burn up easily, the one I had on my other FB which passed initially failed the next time I inspected (2 years in NJ) cause the cat was totally burned up. Oh well, nothing a hour or 2 and a welder can't fix. Also, thanks for the kind words about my project, we'll have to meet up so you can see it.
