Part mixing questions

I am putting a custom 13B in an 83 GS with a GSLSE 5 Speed Tranny.
The motor has GSLSE Rotor Housings and EShaft, S5 Rotors, and 12A Irons.

1) What years are there for the GSLSE - 84 and 85? Do they all have the same rotor housings - will they all mate to 12A irons?

2) Can i use the same transmission mounts for the SE tranny? Will it mount in the same position when mated to the 13B (will the shifter still be in the right place)? Will my stock propeller shaft mate to the SE tranny?

3) Can i reuse my 12A dizzy?

4) Can I reuse the mounting surface for the oil filter from the 12A?

5) Can I reuse my 12A water pump housing?

6) What front covers will work?

7) I am buying a new oil pump - Should I buy it for (74-85) or (86-92) ?

8) What years should i get for the front engine parts - bearings, spacers, oil pump gear/chain etc ?

the SE was made in 84 and 85 only. they used the same housings. there were no differences in the 13B housings in 84-85. not sure if they'll mate to the 12A irons. i wouldn't think so, being that the engine is slightly wider. the SE trans will bolt right in with no modifications. it has the same casting as the non SE trans. the only difference is a taller 5th gear on the SE trans. you can use the 12a distributer. they are the same on a 12A and 13B. the mounting surface..... go with the front mount oil cooler from the SE. don't use the bee hive type oil cooler assembly. get rid of that thing. you can switch the mounting surface to an SE mount on any 12A. the 13B's shouldn't have the bee hive. hope this info helps.

thanks for the help so far guys

I know that Se housings mate to the 12A, i just wasnt sure if both the 84 and 85 did.

I already have the under-rad style oil cooler. previous owner must have swapped one in, not sure what year its from tho. they are very expensive, so id like to reuse mine. do all of those style oil coolers have about the same flow/cooling ability?

so i can reuse the 12A propeller shaft then.....do they have replaceable u-joints (83) ?

2) No the transmission mounts will be different. If you keep the factory front mount then you simply add a 2in piece of flat bar to the original crossmember and drill new holes but then you will have to get the driveshaft cut because the extra length of the 13b moves it back. Other way is to to keep the transmission bolted to the the factory mounts, you won't have to get your driveshaft, but this moves the motor forward and fabricate or make the engine mount fit. Easy way to do this is add tabs to the mount and drill new holes for the mounts. Or if you want to spend some money Racing Beat sells a front engine crossmember that requires no modification. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm

5) Yes you can use the 12A water pump.

7) Buy it for a 84-85 13b gslse get only the gslse it is larger than the 12a's
