Painting my new rims for my Big brake kit :D
I'm throwing this out there for the people doing a big brake kit. 93-95 Ford explorer rims are a perfect fit for out cars and are 15x7. backspace is 4.5"
I bought rims from a scrap yard for 35$ a piece, and 4 used tires for 40$ everything came to 220$ installed and balanced. A trip to the store and about 30$ worth of paint, 250$ for rims and tires that look decent.
They're not clear coated yet, I'll probably have to do that tomorrow and i only had a chance to finish 2 of them

I'm a fan, making cars look good on the cheap is always something to be proud of. Remember, the more clear coats you put on, the better they will look.

i bought the kit from re-speed. I bought hubs for 80$ for the pair, 10 press in knurl studs for 30$, new bearings all around with dust seals 120$, plus the rims and rubber. Unless you want to count the 2300$ rims that are going to be my racing/show off rims
I did clear coat them after reading the label it says to clear them 1-2 hours after painting. I'll get some pictures tomorrow morning though and how they look on the car (well sitting besides the ones that I have on there right now.

ha ha I dream about my car at night too. But its usually a nightmare. I just posted about it in my leaking omp tread. They've slowed down a bit since most of the cars issues have been fixed.

Thanks I try to be ... it only took 2 junk yard and who knows how many rims that I measured up on their shelves (definatly over 50 sets though), but found the size that I needed. Maybe you can post that up on your forum as a recommended wheel for the not so wealthy people. Or you should wait to see if they clear the caliper first. But I think that I'll be fine.

I actually like that look. too bad they are steel, right?
you got them for $35 each? i think its just a little bit cheaper than the vert bbs wheels. and those are like 12 pounds each? can get these for 50 each.

From the oxidation on there, I'm going to say that they're actually aluminum. I should have them weighed tomorrow. I'll compare them to my ASA wheels that I have right now. But I don't think there's much difference between them. I think the stock FB wheels are 9lb if I remember correctly. Rubber alone though for a 185/70 is probably around 18lb or so. So the 195 are probably around 19lb.

Its Duplicolor I think is the brand. I first started by roughing up the surface with coarse stainless steel wool. Then I painted it with a duplicolor primer, then went on to the special duplicolor wheel paint, lastly duplicolor wheel clearcoat. I decided to use the same brand primer just incase to adhere properly. Its only 2$ more than the regular stuff. Also I only needed one can of each for doing all the rims. And yes thats with me being quite generous with the layering. I did about 2-3 full coats on all of them. I even sprayed the edges of the rims a few more times along with where the air filler tube is because i knew those would take the most abuse. I had a bit of clear coat left, but finished off the other 2 cans.
