Question Painted "grille"?

After repainting my stock airdam to get rid of the cracked paint (from bending when the previous owner hit curbs), I got to thinking, and had the idea that painting the black grille thing above the airdam silver like the rest of my car. My thought was that it'd be a very subtle way to make the car appear a little more modern. What do you guys think?

Well, I personally would go for the contrast - my grille is the same midnight blue metallic as the rest of my car. Don't get me wrong, it looks great same-color, but with a silver car especially, the black accents help make a stronger look. YMMV

had the same idea but havn't attempted...would be interested in some pictures because I also have a silver/black rx...the advantage is that the painted grille will now get more visibility but am not sure if that is desirable

I disagree.

Take it out completely. Thats the first thing i did to both my rex's.

it adds a whole new feel to the front, like its more of an air scoop, rather than a grille. Kinda hard to explain. See for yourself on your car. in the mean time, you can almost get what i'm saying here:

and my old car

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to go ahead and paint it, just 'cause that's what my personal taste is, but I'll definitely take before-and-after pics so people can see the difference. I should have those up later today.

357. just TRY taking it off, even for while you're painting it, just to see what its like!!!

85rx7GS, i loved that car too, 12a, with full free flowing exhaust. Holy **** it was loud, sounded soooo good though (racing beat road race header & center section, 2.5" overaxle inot a dual 3" tip DTM muffler)

you'll notice the middle vane angles up. Taking off the grille entirely actually increases front-end lift at higher speeds (amazing that a little strip of plastic makes such an aerodynamic difference!)

Iotus, what are you using as a "grill" to prevent debris like newspaper or plastic film from getting up to the cooling fins w/o you knowing it?

hahaha
no way that thing increases lift enough to notice. not big enough, not braced enough, not strong enough.
