One of the problems is that it will look pretty shoddy to begin with, which limits the maintainability from the get-go. BUT, you MIGHT be able to keep it at that level with CONSTANT diligence.

As in: never let it get dirty, wax it once a month... IE: spend enough money on maintenance to get a much better, and more easily maintained paint job.

They don't put on as many layers, for one, and they usually use A)too little clearcoat B)too much clearcoat (my car has dried PUDDLES of the stuff from the cheap paint job the last owner got) or C) no clearcoat at all, just paint. On the plus side, your car will match colors again.
They do very superficial masking and prep. They may not even remove trim, but try to mask it off instead, I have seen cheap (and not so cheap) paint jobs where the paint was actually sprayed on over top of road tar. There is overspray everywhere, on the exhaust, suspension, trim, etc. You can see paint gunked up along the edges and seams.

With cheap paint jobs you are probably getting a less skilled person which increases the likelihood of "operator errors." Too much air, nozzle distance off, uneven application, drips, runs, etc. It will probably look shiny at first and maybe ok from 20-50 feet away. And then a few months later the paint starts to chip or scratch...
