oversteer/understeer questions

i know this should be in another forum but i never go to the other ones this is my home . anyway....FWD cars are supposed to understeer and RWD are supposed to oversteer. well i have had first hand experience with oversteer in a 7...but ive also had oversteering in a FWD car - dodge neon. i was having a little fun when my mall parking lot got iced over a few years ago.... so i would go around this curve and the car would fishtail....since its FWD shouldnt it understeer instead?

rear end is light weight. i had a black 92 neon. fun car. if you spin the car around a folcrum in the front then the inertia is going to make the rear end keep going.

It all depends on conditions and how you are driving ... FWD cars do oversteer and RWD cars do understeer.

The best way I can explain it is ...

1. Tyres have a certain amount of "grip" once you run out the tyre will slip

2. going round a corner uses up grip

3. braking uses up grip

4. transfering power uses up grip

Therfor a fwd car uses the front wheels to transfer power ... hence they tend to run out of grip first (understeer)

Rwd cars use the rear wheels to transfer power and they tend to oversteer as they run out of grip first

a bit simplified but basically how it works
