The sensor is located on the driver side of the connecting pipe that runs between the main catalytic converter and the muffler. Its a probe that is held in the pipe with two bolts. You could probably disable it without too much difficulty, which should turn off the light.

But the real question is WHY is it on. Troubleshoot that first.

Is the light always on? if it comes on right from startup then there is something wrong with the system?

if the system checks out ok (which it may not due to a faulty sensor or wiring), unplug the connector for the exhaust probe. the connector can be accessed by removing the driver's seat and peeling back the carpet.

I have seen this before on a friends 82 rx and the fuse was blown (we found it AFTER we tore the car apart) there is a small emision box on the drivers side and it has a small glass type fuse holder we replaced the fuse and everything started working again including his shutter valve.

that makes no sense on the shutter valve working, as its vacuum operated...and the buss type (glass) fuses were only used on SA's (79-80)..either way, glad your friends car is working again!

Ok, then there is a fault in the system. There likely isnt a fault in the exhaust, especially if the car is running good and all the other emissions components are in place.
