Our 1st spin in 7 years

Just took her out for her first spin in 7 years. Damn it feels good to get behind that wheel again.
Update:
The tires look great!
Replaced plugs(NGK), coils, wires(NGK)are on the way
Replaced oil, oil and air filters(K&N) and coolant
New synthetic gear oil in Differential, transmission and steering box
Gave her a good bath and cleaned all the debris out of the engine and degreased it.
Cleaned up the interior, carpet...
She has good power but power drops off a bit at about 5500 rpm, probably needs a good carb cleaning (any volunteers?). Brakes are a little rough, but she stops good and a complete rebuild is in the works for next week. Over all a very pleasant drive. Windows need to be tightened in the doors and stuff like that but nothing I can't fix.
Came back from our drive around the block and the dash dummy lights came on, like when you first turn on the key in the on position before you turn it over and the tach appeared to be showing volts not RPM's. Turned it off and checked fluids... All fluids are good and at restart the idle was at the normal 1000ish, but showing 5000(13+volts) on the tach and the lights where all on still.
Do you think ignition switch? Dash wires? It's dark now so we'll dig a little deeper tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your help,
Ilesha

Whenever all the idiot lights come on, this is usually an indicator that your alternator has gone out. Check the belt (simple things first), then the alternator itself to see if it's generating regulated power when running.

Resist the urge to spin the alternator freely without being grounded or hooked up to the harness - there are internal electrical components that regulate the voltage output to your charging system that can be damaged if you spin the alternator without it being hooked up. Even spinning it by hand over and over and over can cause electrical damage that will look like a 'bad' alternator.

I know you posted up before, but if you can add a signature line of your make and model, it would be helpful. I think you're talking about a 12a carb'ed engine, right? HTH,

Alright he has an 79-80 do to the external regulator. If you can find a replacement one that works, use it. If not then you'll want to get a later model alt as I did. All you have to do is eaither change the connector, or just put spade terminal on it. Then just hook up the wires with small jumpers. This you'll need a manual. As I said, if you cant find a external voltage regulator that works. Get it from the places you can take it back, because its sorta a pain. well hopped I helped, PM if you need help and I'll tell you more what I did.
