Original Radio Question

I'm going to be putting an original GSL SE Radio back in my SE. Does the original radio work without the 2 separate amps or is it just a tuner?
Where are the 2 amps installed? Under the seats?

Thanks...

Which radio do you have?

There are 3 systems available.

1) Tuner + Cassette + EQ
Will have a balancer in the center console.
Connects to 2 amps located in the storage compartments behind the seats. Must remove the storage compartments to get to them.

2) Tuner + Cassette deck

Amps located in same areas as above. No balancer.

3) Tuner only
Front speakers are a direct connection. Rears connected to an amp located in compartment
behind the drivers seat. Again, removal of compartment is necessary to gain access.

Looks like j9 was faster at typing his response than I was! LOL!

I have the Tuner + Cassette + EQ. Do you have to use the Center Console balancer? or can that be skipped?

Looking at the manual and knowing what mine had, I don`t think that it can. Mine was dirty and scratchy sounding when I turned it.

I ended up later just replacing the whole system with aftermarket gear.

Any advice on cleaning the pots? Mine has a horrible scratch when I adjust the volume.

Radio shack contact cleaner/lube works. Deoxit costs more and works too.

But how does one remove the pots in order to clean them? Is there a write up somewhere?

Just take off the ***** and try spraying along the shaft. That usually works.

Like Cameron said. Directions will be on can. Spray on shaft as if penetrating oil. Work back and forth. Repeat may be necessary. Sometimes even twice.

If you hadn't asked the question, you wouldn't have received the answer.

No Doh!

I agree.
The dumbest question is one that is never asked.

If it were me, I would spray into any opening on the control, and vigorously turn the control, while soaking it in cleaner.

I hate scratchy sounding electronic gear.
