Original Pinstripes

Does anyone know if the factory pinstripes on first generation cars were painted on or stuck on? Especially the GSL-SE model. Thanks.

Dealer option, iirc. I have seen several pattern variations on the same year/trm level. Most of mine were painted.

Pin Stripes

All the ones I have pulled off over the years have been taped.

It depended on the dealership. I have had them both ways. Hand pinstripping was still very popular back in those years.

Mine were stuck on, took about two days to remove them, but definitely looks better IMO

The white '83 has more pinstriping than usual, and it was painted I think. Perhaps PercentSevenC will know for sure.

Mine were thick, stuck on and very ugly. They started peeling off on their own. Mind you, im not sure a single part of my old rex was holding together by more then a thread anywhere... but thats besides the point.

Mine were stuck on, too. I know this because the girl who sold me the car had it painted a couple of years before I got her. It must have been a really cheap job because they painted right over the stripes (except for one panel, telling me she'd been wrecked). I put new ones on over those and yes, they peeled, but then again, so did the paint. She's repainted now and I had loads of fun peeling off the original stripes and seeing the original color underneath. She now is stripe free and painted properly.
