How exactly do you tell how old your seven is......

I sold my old 79 to keeponlaffen..it had a build date of 07/78, the passenger side hood latch, and the one mirror...oh ya, and no map pockets on the doors....

it did have vinyl seating and a sway bar....with a sunroof..so i know its a gs...just wondering how close it was to being the 1st seven?

look at the VIN. It will say SA2 2 C - 5XXXXX. 500001 would be #1 Rx-7 made, get it??

500001- 566640 are '79's

566641-631000 are '80's

Nope. RX-7's where sold in Japan first. My car was manufactured in March of 78 and sold as a 78 in Japan. Those "first" sa22c's have serial #'s 100001 and up. S/N 500001 would be the first north american RX7 which came about 6 months later.

I fixed mine but don't think it's worth it, these cars a totaly spot welded togehther and once they start to rust theres no going back. They like to rust from the inside out, if you see any rust chances are it's a lot worse than you think.

Thats very true Setzep, when you see rust on the outside of the car its really bad behind it. Usually if its a small bubble or two you got a good 4 x 4 inch area thats rusting. And all cars rust from the inside outward. Ever see a chipped car down to metal? Well ever notice 2 years later the rust is still surface rust? When something is closed up like that it rusted way faster than surface rust. I got an 80 Ill show ya that is way ate up Damn I loved that car too!

Hey, RXcetera:

I was just saying in the "SA22" thread that are cars are pretty similar. My chasis number is SA22 108832, which to me seems a really small difference.

That's all

Hi.

My one had a normal door mirror, but it has been ripped off leaving an ugly hole. It has Japanese stickers and things, though.

It looks like there is a power cable inside the door that runs to the mirror. And on the dash, there is a 4 way switch (with up, down, left and right) that does nothing. Are the door mirrors normally electric or something?

Bye,
ScruffyChimp

Mine has the "ugly" fender mirrors. They grow on you, beleive it or not. Both sides are electric (they would have to be if you ever wanted to adjust them while driving).
